  • We are excited to tell you that we have an exhibition of our photos coming up at Burslem School of Art, from the 15th - 27th September, called edgescape - air:sea:land and you can preview some of the images here

  • Tone continues our run of success in competitions with a win in UrbanVision's Living Landscapes competition, he also had a photo credit on Dave Pegg's recent CD boxed set. This adds to a growing tally of wins and publications over last 18 months -  see some of those winning and published images here

Faris Nikon D80, Sigma 12-24@24, SB800 flash
this image has been processed somewhat using Adobe's new photo-processing software Lightroom - this is a fantastic tool for making effective and striking changes to images as they come off the camera. I now shoot in raw format which by-passes all in camera processing allowing the photographer to take the greatest possible control over the look of their images. It is a refreshing change from Photoshop's clunky, bloated interface which harks back to the earliest days of digital photo processing - Lightroom is also comparatively cheap - students can get a copy for about £80.

New Year Wren D70, Nikkor 70-300mm VR
Happy New Year from the hoppy skippy jenny-wren who lives in our garden and is very hard to photograph!

27th December 2007
robin redbreast D70, Nikkor 70-300mm VR
taken in Dimminsdale and rather seasonal - Happy Christmas!

2nd December 2007
van reflection D70, Nikkor 18-70mm
Pen is fascinated by the sky and reflection - this picture incorporates both subjects - the object reflecting the sky is our campervan.

November 2007
grass with photographers D80, Sigma 12-24@12mm
taken on a bright autumn afternoon. Drops of dew were still on the grass which probably accounts for the bright reflection around the heads of the shadows. We have used a small monochrome version of this image for our site logo - it includes both of us taking a photograph, and the shadows form "a for atypical". This is the first image on this site processed with Adobe Lightroom.

25th November 2007
grass D70, Nikkor VR 70-300mm
at Biddulph Grange, taken into the sun - very little processing done - this is how the photograph came out

broad street, hanley Canon Powershot 720 IS
Just outside the City Museum & Art Gallery - late leaves on this ash, and plenty of berries for the birds

7th September 2007
white orchids minus one Nikon D80, Nikkor 18-70
I recently took some CD cover photos for a Stoke-based band The White Orchids - they wanted a street shot with a blurred vehicle in the background, and this great opportunity came along with a large red lorry passing just behind them - perfect shot! The only problem was the fourth band member was behind me getting his cheese and bacon oatcake out of a carrier bag....

because of Tone's illness we published no images from late April 'til late July 2007

multiply quoted focal lengths by 1.5 to find the equivalent for a 35mm film camera
for example - mounted on a Nikon D70 an 18-70mm lens has an equivalent focal length range of approx 27-105mm
